The piece was from the most amazing piece of Big Leaf Maple with pencil line
spalting I have encountered before or since. It came from a 600 lb. piece
of wood that had a just enough spalting showing on one end to hint of its
magnificence. I studied that piece of wood for many hours over several
days before I worked up the courage to start cutting it with the chainsaw.
An unlucky decision could have been prevented best use of the raw wood, but in
this case the stars were with me.
Simple green turned red maple pot with the sliver of heartwood forming an accent at the
opening.
